‘Snowden’ Trailer: Oliver Stone And Joseph Gordon-Levitt Take Down The NSA
Oliver Stone is back in political firecracker mode to tell the true story of everyone’s favorite whisteblower Edward Snowden.
Oliver Stone hasn’t made a movie since 2012’s critical and box office disaster “Savages,” but you should never count out the Oscar-winning provocateur. This September, the filmmaker finally returns to the big screen in the same political firecracker mode that has given him some of his most blazing and timeless classics, from “Platoon” to “Nixon” and “JFK,” and this time around he’s gunning for the NSA with the true story of Edward Snowden.
Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as one of the world’s most controversial whisteblowers, “Snowden” tracks the eponymous hacker’s rise from failed Special Forces trainee (he was discharged after he broke both of his legs) to CIA hotshot and ultimate betrayer. The drama is based on Luke Harding’s “The Snowden Files” and Anatoly Kucherena’s “Time of the Octopus” and was filmed outside of the United States out of fear of governmental interference from the NSA.
The last time Snowden graced the big screen it was in Laura Poitras’ Oscar-winning documentary “Citzenfour.” Will Stone find similar luck with the Academy? Watch the trailer below (courtesy of IMBD) and find out. “Snowden,” co-starring Nicolas Cage and Shailene Woodley, opens September 16.
