EW.COM – Last week it was announced that Ansel Elgort landed the sought-after part of Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars opposite Shailene Woodley. Adapted from the John Green best-seller, Fault is a heartwarming/breaking love story between two teens who met in a cancer support group.

Funnily enough, Elgort and Woodley are already working together. They’re currently filming Divergent with director Neil Burger (based upon the Veronica Roth book) where they play brother and sister, Caleb and Beatrice Prior. “I keep joking with Ansel about it,” Shailene tells EW with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘In a few months, buddy, you’re going to be my lover.’”

But all joking aside, Woodley seems thrilled with her future onscreen romantic pairing. “Ansel is so good. I’m so excited. He blew it out of the water,” she says of the time they read the parts of Gus and Hazel together. “And he’s a real sweetheart. I’m so excited to have him in my life.”

The filmmakers certainly agree: Wyck Godfrey previously told EW: ”We were all swept away by the humor, charm, and aching vulnerability Ansel brought to his portrayal of Gus. His performance completely annihilated our concerns about his playing Caleb in Divergent with Shailene, and we are confident that the fans of Fault will fall in love with him the same way that Hazel does–slowly, and then all at once.”

And author John Green told us, “I am by nature a cautious pessimist, but I’ll just say it: Now that we have Shailene and Ansel, I am completely, unreservedly psyched about this movie.”

Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, a brand new still from Divergent has been added to the gallery. Be sure to take a look!

Afraid of heights? Let’s just say you probably wouldn’t make it in Dauntless.

The highly anticipated adaptation of Veronica Roth’s best-selling Divergent is still filming in Chicago, but EW has gotten this exclusive first look of Tris (Shailene Woodley) out on a ledge and perched to jump as part of initiation into her faction. For those of who haven’t read the books, in the dystopian world of Divergent, all of society is divided into five factions: Abnegation (selfless); Erudite (intelligent); Candor (honest); Amity (peaceful) and Dauntless (brave). Our heroine, sixteen-year-old Tris Prior, has chosen the Dauntless faction which involves a lot of very scary initiation tests—like the time she stood still while knives were thrown at her head.

“In this photo she’s already jumped off the train and onto a seven story building as part of the initiation rite for the Dauntless,” explains director Neil Burger. “The next thing they have to do is jump from the building and down through a courtyard that has a deep, black hole. It’s terrifying.”

And filming this scene sounds almost as frightening. “We’d been nervously planning it because it is dangerous and there’s a lot of people on that roof,” says Burger, who used the former Spiegel building for this location. “We had to pull it off safely and also pull it off cinematically, so you have this knot in your stomach as you watch this young woman decide to do this crazy thing. We had great weather that day and I think this scene really is emblematic of the movie: It shows the energy and the rawness of the way we’re telling the story,” he says.

The cast of actors—which include Theo James, Miles Teller, Ben Lamb and Zoe Kravitz—all have to do all sorts of stomach-lurching things, such as jumping off of elevated trains and scaling great heights. Their director says they’re a group ready for any challenge, especially his leading lady. “Shailene says she’s not afraid of heights but that she’s afraid of falling,” says Burger, with a laugh. “This makes perfect sense to me. But she really did stand on that ledge—this is a real photo. She’s incredibly game and so adventurous,” he says. “In a way, she’s very Dauntless.”

EW.COM – Hazel has found her Gus!

Ansel Elgort has been offered the role of Augustus Waters—the male lead opposite Shailene Woodley—in the eagerly anticipated adaptation of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, directed by Josh Boone. Green’s beloved, best-selling book is a love story that is equal parts funny, sweet, and heartbreaking in its telling of Hazel and Gus, two teens who meet in a cancer support group. (EW had it on the Best Fiction of 2012 list)

“Ansel is whip-smart and uber-charismatic and everything I dreamed for Augustus Waters,” John Green tells EW in an exclusive statement. “I am by nature a cautious pessimist, but I’ll just say it: Now that we have Shailene and Ansel, I am completely, unreservedly psyched about this movie.”

Director Josh Boone tells EW: “Ansel Elgort is the epitome of the boy John Green brought to life so vividly in his novel and he truly embodies the character traits we admire so much about Gus. His humor, sensitivity, honesty and confidence floored us. Watching him with Shailene was like seeing the film for the first time. Hearing then say okay to each other was incredibly moving. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have found our Gus.”

Elgort, 19, will be seen in the remake of Carrie this fall and is currently at work playing Caleb Prior alongside Woodley (who plays his sister) on Divergent—adapted from the Veronica Roth bestseller. Says The Fault in Our Stars producer Wyck Godfrey: ”We were all swept away by the humor, charm, and aching vulnerability Ansel brought to his portrayal of Gus. His performance completely annihilated our concerns about his playing Caleb in Divergent with Shailene, and we are confident that the fans of Fault will fall in love with him the same way that Hazel does–slowly, and then all at once.”

The book will be adapted for the screen by (500) Days of Summer and The Spectacular Now writers Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber. Production is due to begin in August.

TEEN.COM – The big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s YA novel, Divergent, might not be hitting theaters until next March, but that hasn’t stopped millions from obsessing over it — present company included! Recently, Teen was able to catch up with the book’s author at the Lionsgate offices in Santa Monica (umm, no big deal), to talk about not only the film, but the book series’ third offering, Allegiant, which will be released in October.

One topic of discussion during our chat was the age gap between lead actors Shailene Woodley (Tris) and Theo James (Four). In the book, these characters are 16 and 18 respectively, but the actors playing them are a bit older at 21 and 28. When asked about the age subject, Veronica assured that fans wouldn’t be disappointed, saying:

“I think that head shots look a lot older than actual people. When I’m meeting them in real life I’m like ‘Oh yeah this is not a problem.’ Seeing them all together, they definitely look younger than you think. I was most concerned about the age gap looking okay. Obviously Shailene is [six years] younger than Theo. It doesn’t really look that way because I think when you cast an actual 16 year old and actual 18 year old they look the same age, especially if the 18 year old is a boy because they don’t age. So that would actually look kind of creepy. So I’m happy with the maturity of the actors I think that was crucial to making this movie work and by casting older actors we definitely have gotten that maturity which is amazing. I think that gap looks great in real life.”

Veronica also sang Theo’s praises in another way, mentioning that he was the one actor who matched her vision of the book character the closest.

Another topic of discussion was the film’s script. Obviously as the book’s author, Veronica has a lot invested in this, so was she happy with the script after she read it? Veronica told us:

“Reading a script is interesting. I had never read a script before. I was really impressed by how closely it stuck to the general plot line of the book. I haven’t read the updated script so I don’t know how it’s transformed. I’ve been told it’s transformed in really positive ways and I’m going to read it I think soon. From what I saw on set it’s developing really nicely so it was surprisingly positive. I was expecting to feel very personally insulted if anything changed but I didn’t feel that at all.”

Veronica also opened up about Kate Winslet, who will play the movie’s villain, and how she was in disbelief that the Oscar winner was even interested in the project.

“When they told me they were talking to her I was like ‘Psh, yeah that’s going to happen.’ Seriously that was my reaction because I don’t believe anything until it’s official. Then when it was official I had a little panic attack like ‘Oh my God, it’s really happening!’ So the official strategy is defensive pessimism always. But lately I’ve been allowing myself to be a little more excited.”
